Cudicini moves from Chelsea to Tottenham

Tottenham have signed Carlo Cudicini on a free transfer from London rivals Chelsea.

The Italian goalkeeper has set his sights on pushing Heurelho Gomes for the number one jersey at White Hart Lane.

Cudicini (35) spent a decade at Stamford Bridge and has no regrets about swapping Champions League football for a Premier League survival battle saying :

"At this moment the team is not in the best position but it doesn't matter - I'm here to bring some experience and try to push this club forward."

Roger Federer shortens as favourite to win Australian Open

Roger Federer has been made the bookmakers favourite for the Australian Open Mens Singles title following his impressive three-set defeat of Marat Safin in Melbourne.

To beat Safin so convincingly showed the Swiss ace is at the top of his game whereas you couldn't say the same thus far for Andy Murray or Novak Djokovic. Federer is available at 2.87 at Bet365

Andy Murray remains the second favourite at 4.10 also at PinnacleSports but this has as much to do with patriotic punting from within the UK as it does with estimations of his ability to win his first Grand Slam title here in Melbourne.

We should get a better handle on Rafael Nadal credentials after his match with the unpredicable Tommy Haas tomorrow and Nadal is priced at 4.60 at PinnacleSports right now.

Pittsburgh Steelers favoured to win Super Bowl

Superbowl Betting OddsThe Pittsburgh Steelers are the overwhelming favourites to beat the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl in Tampa on February 1st.

The Steelers saw off the Baltimore Ravens 23-14 in Pittsburgh while the Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Eagles 32-25 on their home field in Glendale.

But the bookies see only one winner when the pair square up in Tampa, with the Steelers 4/10 (1.40) at European bookmaker Interwetten and the Cardinals on offer at 9/4 (3.25) with Paddy Power.

The early handicap line gives Arizona a 6.5 to 7.0 point start.

Kaka turns down Man City and stays at AC Milan

AC Milan playmaker Kaka has turned down a lucrative move to Manchester City.

City issued a statement saying they had ended talks, believing it was unlikely a deal could be struck with Milan. Executive chairman Garry Cook said: "The discussions reached only a preliminary stage and the player was not involved at any time."

City's bid for Kaka was reportedly worth £100m, more than £50m in excess of the current world transfer fee record Real Madrid paid to Juventus to sign Zinedine Zidane in 2001, and that the Premier League club were willing to pay the Brazilian weekly wages of £500,000.

Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi told Italian television the 26-year-old had opted not to leave. "That's the end of the story," Berlusconi said. "I'm truly delighted to have kept Kaka at Milan."

KAKA transfer news overdose ...

Here is a selection of news flashes and pure made up bollocks published by newspapers in the last 24 hours regarding Kaka's possible transfer to Manchester City.

They can't all be true - many of them contradict each other ...

(Press Association)
Despite reports to the contrary from the Middle East, Manchester City boss Mark Hughes insists the Kaka deal could still go ahead.

(Arabianbusiness.com) Manchester City have sensationally withdrawn their bid for Kaka, and will instead unveil another signing from Serie A in the next 48 hours - "not in the Kaka league".

(The Sun) AC Milan star Kaka will only move to Manchester City if he is given a series of get-out clauses as part of a world record £175m deal.

(The Sun continues) If he joins City, the Brazilian star wants written guarantees in his contract that Sheikh Mansour remains the club's owner and continues to invest heavily, that City qualify for the Champions League within two years, that Robinho stays at the club and also that he retains control of his image rights. If any of those clauses are broken, Kaka would be allowed to leave for a predetermined transfer fee.

(Daily Star) City will offer Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti the chance to take charge at Eastlands in the summer in a bid to improve their chances of signing Kaka.

(The Sun
tried a new line ..) Kaka is committed to the Rossoneri but will listen to City if there is any indication that the Italian club are willing to accept the £100m on offer by the Eastlands club.

(Daily Telegraph)
Milan are willing to sell Kaka but a deal will only be sanctioned if he wishes to leave the San Siro.

(The Sun must have a lot of bugs in the negotiation room) Kaka's father and closest adviser Bosco Leite is flying in from Brazil to enter the negotiations.

(Daily Mirror) City will present their proposal to Kaka's representatives before the end of this week but Bosco Leite holds the key to whether the deal will go through.

(Daily Mail) Kaka wants to meet Sheikh Mansour before he decides on his future.

(Daily Telegraph) City will renew their efforts to sign Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon or AC Milan goalkeeper Dida in an attempt to convince Kaka of their ambitions.

(The Guardian) Manchester City used Kaka's compatriot Robinho, who joined them from Real Madrid for £32.5m in August, to try to persuade the 26-year-old midfielder to swap the San Siro for Eastlands.

(Daily Mail starts to make it all up ..) Robinho has been in regular telephone contact with Kaka and has told City boss Mark Hughes that his Brazil team-mate is ready to move to Manchester.

Brazilian World Cup winner trials with Bolton Wanderers

Denilson to Bolton? Bolton have given Brazilian World Cup winner Denilson a trial.

Bolton boss Gary Megson will take a look at the 31-year-old, who is a free agent after being released by Brazilian club Palmeiras. Denilson became the world's most expensive player when he moved to Real Betis from Sao Paulo in 1998 for £21.5m.

Denilson spent seven seasons in Spain before spells at Bordeaux, followed by Al-Nasr and then FC Dallas.

He has won 68 caps for his country and was part of the Brazil squad that won the 2002 World Cup beating Germany 2-0 in the final.

Chelsea boss odds cut in the sack race.

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Chelsea bosss Luiz Felipe Scolari being the next Premier League boss out of a job to 10/1 (from 33/1) following a flurry of bets on him to be sacked.

Chelsea are struggling a little and with Scolari coming under more pressure after Southend forced the Blues to an FA Cup replay, it seems that the 33/1 was too attractive a price for some punters to turn down.
