Stanley Cup Betting - Vancouver Canucks v Boston Bruins

The Stanley Cup Finals are on the horizon and it will involve a pair of teams who have not played in a Stanley Cup for over 15 years.

The series is just the latest pairing in a postseason of unpredictable upsets, comebacks and rallies.

Think the Vancouver Canucks will be able to avenge their 1994 Stanley Cup Final loss at the hands of the New York Rangers?

The Boston Bruins also have been harboring resentment over the years, held Cupless since 1972. The last time the Bruins even made a trip to the Finals was in 1990.

Who will break the drought first? Bet on the NHL playoffs with Bodog.

Canucks Favoured to Win

According to the odds makers at Bodog, the Vancouver Canucks sit in the driver's seat with home ice advantage and -200 odds to win Game 1.

All things considered, Vancouver also sits as strong favourites to lift the cup with -250 odds of winning the Stanley Cup outright.

Latest Stanley Cup Championship Odds :
- Vancouver Canucks 1.40 (-250)
- Boston Bruins 3.00 (+200)

But that's not to say that the Bruins are without a legitimate shot of contending. After winning the Northeast Division with 103 points this season, the Bruins took down both of last season's Eastern Conference Finalists  and a surging Tampa Bay Lightning squad.

The talking is almost over with Game 1 fast approaching - so it's time to weigh in.

Swansea City win promotion to the English Premier League

Swansea have joined QPR and Norwich in the Premier League following an exciting  4-2 victory over Reading in the Championship play-off final.

Scott Sinclair's 25th and 26th goals of the season in a two-minute spell midway through the first half set Swans on their way - the opener coming from the penalty spot - before Stephen Dobbie added a third.

But Wembley had another good match on it's hands as Reading displayed plenty of never-say-die spirit and hauled themselves right back into it through Noel Hunt and Matthew Mills, before Sinclair smashed home his second penalty in the 80th minute to seal promotion.

But it could be a long hard season for the Swans next season as Swansea are 8/15 with Paddy Power to be relegated.

Miami Heat favourites for NBA Championship

The Miami Heat secured their spot in the NBA Finals with a Game 5 win over the Chicago Bulls last Thursday and after losing the series opener in Chicago, the Heat looked as dominant as any team in the league.

Now with the Finals on the horizon, LeBron James and company gear up for a showdown with Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks.

Bet on the NBA playoffs with Bodog Sportsbook.

The Heat-Mavericks pairing is nothing new for NBA fans, nor is it for Nowitzki and Heat All-Star Dwyane Wade. The two teams met in the 2006 NBA Finals with Wade and Miami taking the eventual crown.

Now instead of Shaquille O’Neal, Wade will turn to James and Chris Bosh for assistance, while Nowitzki simply tries to avenge his own loss.

Barcelona beat Manchester United to claim 4th European title

Barcelona beat Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley to win the Champions League, with superstar Lionel Messi producing a fine display including his first goal on English soil.

The pattern of the game was very similar to previous encounter at the Stadio Olimpico in 2009 as Manchester United started with optimism and intent before being swamped by Barcelona's brilliance.

Pedro gave Barcelona the lead from one of the many wonderful passes played by Xavi - but Wayne Rooney lifted the gloom during a torrid spell for United with a fine equaliser following a swift exchange with Ryan Giggs.

Messi restored Barcelona's lead with a powerful drive early in the second half and David Villa's scored a spectacular third goal which emphasised the gulf in class between the sides.

Man United tried hard to claw their way back into the game, but Barcelona dominated possession, and continued to control the game right through until the final whistle.

FT Barcelona 3-1 Man Utd (HT 1-1)

Barcelona Scorers :

UEFA Champions League Final - Man United v Barca - rating the two sides

It's the most hyped club game of the season the UEFA Champions League Final between Manchester United and Barcelona to be played at Wembley.

Ratings of football team are always an inexact science - but here are mine for what it is worth ...

These ratings are based on a "average" strength in the UCL of 1000, and typically if there is a margin of 100 points then a team has a goal advantage.

If a team has less advantage - say 50 points - then there is still some indication as you might consider that an average margin of half a goal means that they will win one game by a goal and draw the next game.

These ratings are based on 10 years worth of data, but of course the most recent games have the most effect on the ratings.

This season we have seen Manchester United go 4-2-0 at home, and 5-1-0 when traveling in Europe, while Barcelona are 5-1-0 at home, and 3-2-1 on the road.

Possibly a slight advantage to Manchester United with a 9-3-0 combined record to Barcelona's 8-3-1, but United have faced weaker opponents in the knockout stages with Schalke and Marseille outside the top five

Gooners UEFA Champions League Ratings

Barcelona Home 1,111
Man United Home 1,044

Barcelona Away 1,050
Man United Away 1,050

Overall these two sides are ranked #1 and #2 in my ratings, with Real Madrid in the #3 spot, Arsenal in #4 (superb home record - awful away), and Chelsea in #5.

Is Wembley Home / Away or Neutral?

The game is being played at Wembley Stadium in England, and the media have been quick to claim some sort of home advantage, but with these two teams both been well supported I would expect a fairly neutral crowd due to the ticketing methods of UEFA and the expense involved.

Manchester United will be well supported of course - but with a significant Barcelona contingent of fans - and many neutral / corporates in attendance - I'm not sure that this should be rated as a home match for United.

Throw in the fact that it's a different set of pitch dimensions, that the players are staying in hotels (rather than living at home) and that there will be 3-4 days of intense media scrutiny ... and I tend to consider this game will be rated more like an "AWAY" game for both sides.

So What does that all mean ?

So all that goes to say that there is very little to pick between the two side for a one-off game at Wembley - with both teams having an away rating of exactly 1050 points each. It's very, very even.

As a betting man, that means that there is definitely more value in the 4.00 price being offered on Manchester United to win in 90 minutes at Eurobet, or the 2.76 for Man United to win the Cup any way at all at PinnacleSports.

Chelsea sack manager Carlo Ancelotti after ending season without a trophy

Chelsea have sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti after he ended his second season at the club without a trophy.

Speculation had been mounting that Ancelotti would be sacked following Chelsea's first season without a trophy in three years. The 51-year-old had one more year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

But Ancelotti was dismissed following the 1-0 loss to Everton, as the west Londoners finished second in the Premier League.

A club statement read: "This season's performances have fallen short of expectations and the club feels the time is right to make this change ahead of next season's preparations."

Blackpool and Birmingham City relegated from English Premier League

Blackpool's one-season stay in the top flight ended in a 2-4 defeat at Old Trafford with a rollercoaster ride of emotions on the final day.

Boss Ian Holloway knew only three points would give Blackpool a realistic chance of survival amid the dramatic twists and turns of the final day of the campaign, as five clubs fought to secure Premier League status.

And when goals from Charlie Adam and Gary Taylor-Fletcher turned around an early deficit into a 2-1 lead at Old Trafford, the Tangerines looked on course to navigate an unlikely path to survival at the home of the newly-crowned champions, who have lost only two points at home all season.

Sadly for Holloway, his players and the thousands of Blackpool supporters who travelled in hope of an escape, Man United scored three times in the final 30 minutes.

---

Birmingham were relegated to the Championship after they lost 1-2 at Tottenham, with Roman Pavlyuchenko's late goal for Tottenham clinching victory for the home side.

Early on results elsewhere were going City's way, and Birmingham seemed safe when Craig Gardner equalised mid-way through the second half after substitute Pavlyuchenko had given Tottenham the lead.

But Wolves' second goal in their 2-3 defeat by Blackburn put Birmingham City back in the bottom three, and Pavlyuchenko's last-minute strike confirmed the Blues' fate.

NBA Championship Favorite Miami Heat Find Answer For Chicago Bulls

The Miami Heat showed signs of life in their second game against the Chicago Bulls, perhaps tipping the scale of public opinion back in their favor against the Eastern Conference’s top seed.

This Sunday (22nd May) the Heat will look to take a lead in their best-of-seven series as they take to the American Airlines Arena in South Beach. After dropping Game 1 in front of a rowdy United Center crowd, many wondered if the Heat would be able to match Chicago's depth.

Perhaps due to the return of grinding power forward Udonis Haslem, or simply just LeBron James and company's adjustment over their layoff between Games 1 and 2, the Heat look like an entirely different team.

Think you know how Game 3 will unfold? Bet on the NBA playoffs with Bodog.

In order for LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to lay claim to the title, they will have to get continued production on the glass from their team.

If the Heat can effectively eliminate Chicago's garbage points while containing superstar guard and MVP Derrick Rose, then this series may be more one-sided than originally thought.

Will the Chicago Bulls bounce back or has Miami found their weakness?

According to Bodog's online sportsbook, the Miami Heat are -205 favorites (1.44) to win their series against the Bulls, and +110 favorites (2.10) to win the NBA championship outright.

Carlos Teves expected to stay at Manchester City

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is confident that Carlos Tevez will still be at Eastlands next term to help the club's first Champions League challenge.

"Carlos has a five-year contract and has told us he wants to stay. I think he will stay here next year," Mancini said. "I spoke with him many times in the last 20 days. It is my opinion that Carlos stays here next season."

Tevez scored twice in Manchester City's 3-0 win over Stoke City in the Premier League on Tuesday and the Citizens just need to win at Bolton Wanderers on Sunday to ensure automatic qualification for the group stages of next season's Champions League.

Manchester City are 7/10 with bet365 to take all three points at the Reebok Stadium, with the draw 11/4, while Man City are 7/1 to win the game by a 2-0 correct scoreline.

Canucks Strike First against Sharks in NHL Western Conference Finals

The Vancouver Canucks have taken a 1-0 series lead against the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Finals with a 3-2 win on Sunday night.

Last season's Art Ross Trophy winner Henrik Sedin scored the winning goal; a power-play effort at 8:21 of the third period, assisted by Christian Ehrhoff and Ryan Kesler, who got his playoff-leading 16th point.

The hit-or-miss goaltending style of Roberto Luongo held firm for the Cunucks as he made 27 saves in the game, but it was a 38-shot barrage against Antti Niemi that helped the Canucks pull through.

Can Luongo continue his win streak or will Niemi rise again and carry his team to the Stanley Cup Finals?

Chicago Bulls face Miami Heat in Game Two on Wednesday

The Chicago Bulls took Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals from the Miami Heat convincingly 103-82, thanks largely in part to star Derrick Rose.

Now the Bulls will try to do it again on Wednesday night at the United Center in Chicago.

Bet on the NBA Playoffs with Bodog.

Three Bulls players reached double-digits including Derrick Rose who led the team with 28 points. Joakim Noah had a game-high 14 rebounds and Luol Deng had four of his team’s 11 steals and added 21 points of his own.

Rose is averaging 28 points per game in the playoffs. Rose, Noah and Carlos Boozer have combined to make a formidable "Big Three" that outplayed Miami's stars in Game 1, and seem set to match Miami's crew in the series.

Can the merged talents of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh continue their run of excellence or can Rose and the Bulls do the improbable and knock-off the three from South Beach?

NBA Championship Odds

The Chicago Bulls have 10/3 odds (+333) of winning the NBA championship.
The Miami Heat are priced at 5/4 (+125) odds of winning the NBA Championship.

West Ham relegated - sack manager Avram Grant

West Ham have sacked manager Avram Grant after a 2-3 defeat at Wigan sealed the Hammers relegation from the Premier League.

The club confirmed the Israeli was leaving the club just over an hour after their 18th league defeat of a dismal campaign withh a statement "Avram Grant is no longer the manager of West Ham United"

First-team coach Kevin Keen will take charge for the final game of the season at home to Sunderland next Sunday.

Manchester City win FA Cup with goal from Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure's second-half goal gave Manchester City victory in the FA Cup Final, beating Stoke City 1-0 at Wembley.

The only goal of the game arrived in the 74th minute. David Silva released Mario Balotelli in the area and when his shot was deflected invitingly into the path of Toure he gave Stoke keeper Thomas Sorensen no chance with a thunderous finish.

The win gave Man City their first trophy in 35 years.

Roberto Mancini's side dominated throughout against a disappointing Stoke, who never came close to reproducing the form that swept Bolton Wanderers aside to reach their first FA Cup final.

Earlier this week, Roberto Mancini's side's 1-0 win over Tottenham in the Premier League ensured City will play in the Champions League next season for the first time.

Manchester United clinch 19th league title in England

Manchester United's 1-1 draw at Blackburn wrapped up a record-breaking 19th league title in England.

Blackburn had taken a first-half lead through Brett Emerton and Martin Olsson hit the bar for Rovers with a header before Wayne Rooney equalised with a penalty with 17 minutes remaining.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson added: "Our away form has not been great, yet our home form has been absolutely fantastic - that's won us the title."

The Red Devils have dropped just two points at Old Trafford, though Ferguson's side have picked up just 25 points from a possible 57 on their travels..

United will be presented with the Premier League trophy on May 22 after their home game at against relegation-threatened Blackpool, who boosted their hopes of survival with a 4-3 win over Bolton on Saturday.

Chicago Bulls led NBA Eastern Conference semi-finals 3-2 after Derrick Rose takes control

The Chicago Bulls broke the Eastern Conference semi-finals series split against the Atlanta Hawks with a 95-83 victory in Game 5 on Tuesday night, sending the series back to Atlanta with a 3-2 lead.

The NBA’s 2010-11 MVP Derrick Rose led the Bulls with 33 points in the game, knowing how important it was to take that pivotal game and swing momentum back Chicago’s way. Rose is averaging 32 points-per-game in the series, proving why he’s the NBA’s youngest MVP, and he’s hoping to carry that onto a NBA Finals MVP Award.

Bet on the NBA Playoffs with Bodog.

This wasn’t Chicago’s easiest win. They trailed early in the fourth quarter when Rose and Taj Gibson caught fire and combined for 22 of the team’s 26 points to snatch the victory.

The Bulls are still looking for their first NBA championship in the post-Michael Jordan era, while the Hawks are looking for their first championship period since relocating from St. Louis.

Bodog has the Bulls with 7/2 odds of winning the NBA championship, while the Hawks have 100/1 odds overall, but the outcome of Thursday’s Game 6 will impact those numbers greatly.

Can Joe Johnson, Jeff Teague, Al Horford and the Hawks rise above the overwhelming odds, or will Derrick Rose and Co. move to their first Eastern Conference Final since they won it all in 1998?

QPR confirmed as Winners of 2010/11 English Championship

QPR are in the Premier League for the 2011/12 season after their place in the top flight was confirmed on Saturday.

The FA announced the club would not be docked points this season or next, despite being found guilty of two charges concerning the signing of Alejandro Faurlin.

QPR have some fairly rich owners who seemingly having plenty of money to spend, you can get 50/1 about the Loftus Road club finishing in the top four next season at online bookmaker Sky Bet while bet365 go 5/1 that QPR finish in the top half of the table.

---

Meanwhile the line-up for the Championship play-offs has now been confirmed.

Swansea, Cardiff, Nottingham Forest and Reading make-up the sides, and frankly there seems to be very little separating these four and a case can be made for each of them to come out on top.

Kentucky Derby 2011 - Wide Open Field

This year's Kentucky Derby is wide open. No clear favorite has risen to the forefront; indeed, it has been a rocky road to the Kentucky Derby for even the top contenders.

Can UNCLE MO Get Back Into Form?

Capable of blowing away fields when at his best, Uncle Mo was heralded as the early Kentucky Derby favorite after his superb 2-year-old campaign. But after being defeated by two rivals in his final prep race before the Kentucky Derby and being diagnosed with a G.I. infection, questions remain as to whether Uncle Mo can bounce back in time to win.

Uncle Mo is trained by Todd Pletcher, who won the Kentucky Derby last year. Find Kentucky Derby odds on Uncle Mo at the Bodog Racebook. Current odds 4/1.

Has DIALED IN Had enough Racing?

The current lukewarm race favorite, Dialed In has delivered consistent performances throughout his Kentucky Derby campaign: His two graded stakes wins (the Holy Bull Stakes and the Florida Derby) were solid. He also has the benefit of trainer Nick Zito, who is a two-time Kentucky Derby winner.

But Dialed In has only raced four times in 2011 and never in a field as crowded as what he will face in the Derby. Make your 2011 Kentucky Derby bet on Dialed In with Bodog. Current odds 4/1

WILL COMMA TO THE TOP Continue his improvement?

A rich win in the CashCall Futurity at the end of 2010 all but guaranteeing a Kentucky Derby berth, Comma to the Top was riding high into 2011. But a series of disappointing performances in 2011 had his connections considering withdrawing him from contention.

In April, Comma to the Top rebounded nicely in his final Kentucky Derby prep with a strong runner-up performance, causing his connections to recommit to the Derby.

He's a roughie - but a good priced outsider. Make your online horse racing wager on Comma to the Top with Bodog! Current Odds 30/1

#8 Memphis Grizzlies eliminate #1 San Antonio Spurs

The Memphis Grizzlies sealed a stunning upset by beating the top ranked San Antonio Spurs 99-91 to clinch their first round playoff series 4-2 at the FedEx Forum on Friday.

San Antonio scored the first points of the game but a 12-0 run by eighth-seeded Memphis forced the Spurs to chase the Grizzlies for much of the encounter.

San Antonio managed to grab the lead briefly at 80-79 with 4:39 remaining in the fourth quarter on a jump shot by Antonio McDyess but were unable to hold the lead.

Zach Randolph scored 17 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter including 13 as the Grizzlies pulled away for good. Randolph also had 11 rebounds and Marc Gasol had a double-double with 13 rebounds and 12 points.

The Grizzlies are only the second #8 seed to ever eliminate a #1 seeded side in the NBA playoffs and will now face Oklahoma City in the next round.
