Barcelona bounced back from conceding a goal in 23 seconds - the fastest goal in El Clasico history - to score three goals and stun Real Madrid and replace their rivals at the top of La Liga.
Real Madrid were three points ahead of Barca with a game in hand and Karim Benzema gave the Madridsta's the lead inside 23 seconds.
Barcelona slowly fought back into the game and equalised after Alexis Sanchez ran onto a Lionel Messi through-ball to slot home after 30 minutes.
In the second half, Xavi's deflected strike put Barca 2-1 ahead and then Cristiano Ronaldo missed a glorious opportunity to level the match when he nodded wide from an unmarked position.
Cesc Fabregas completed the triumph with a diving header from a Dani Alves cross.
The result sees Pep Guardiola's Barcelona side go level on points with Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid, but the Catalans have a superior goal difference and the head-to-head advantage.
